The Abandoned Garden
I happened upon a garden that was wilting in the sun, The work had seemed abandoned when it had only just begun, The petals were all faded but their beauty still showed through My heart felt sudden sadness but my soul knew what to do, I tilled the soil and was pleased to find that their roots were firm and long ---that with just a little love and care the plants would grow bright and strong! So I tended the little flowers, they were never underfed, I weeded the planter’s garden, I plowed her flower bed And when the planter noticed that her flowers began to bloom She rushed to tend the garden and the flowers she rushed to groom But by that time, the toil was over, the hardest work was done All the little flowers required was rain and plenty sun You see its easy to plant the flowers but much harder to make them grow, It takes time and patience and sacrifice to make those petals glow. And when the summer comes to an end and the winter months arrive, It takes love and warmth and selflessness to keep those roots alive Still- I didn’t plant the flowers, but I can help them grow If the garden is untended, I can make it mine to sow, And when the flower blooms and its buds are all aglow, I’ll tend another garden, I will hoe another row.
